With more than 50 offices worldwide, Mercuria is active across global markets in crude oil, natural gas, power, metals, and other commodities. In addition to physical and financial trading, Mercuria provides structured financing solutions and makes strategic investments across the global energy and natural resources value chain. Today, Mercuria employs over 1,000 professionals across major trading hubs including Geneva, London, Houston, Singapore, Beijing, and Shanghai. In 2024, Mercuria established its Tokyo office and launched its Japanese power trading business. As Japan's power market continues to evolve through market liberalization, decarbonization initiatives, and increasing renewable penetration, significant opportunities are emerging for market participants. We are seeking a highly analytical and commercially minded Power Market Analyst to support the growth of our Japanese power business. This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with traders and commercial teams, contributing directly to trading performance, market intelligence, and business development initiatives. ◾️Main Responsibilities: •Build, maintain, and improve quantitative models for Japanese power price forecasting, including spot and forward curve construction. •Develop supply-demand models capturing availability, fuel inputs, and demand seasonality in the Japanese grid. •Monitor Japanese power market data, identify structural changes, and update models accordingly. •Produce analytical outputs (market reports, scenario analyses, model outputs) to support the trader. •Collaborate with the trader on an ad-hoc basis to answer specific analytical questions or prepare client-supporting materials. •Support client-facing interactions as needed, working alongside the trader to understand client needs and help coordinate internally on product delivery. •Assist traders in identifying and developing business opportunities through data-driven insights and market analysis. •Coordinate with internal teams (trading, risk, legal, operations) to ensure smooth execution of transactions. •Contribute to new client and new business identification by providing market intelligence and analytical perspectives on the Japanese power and fuels markets. •Stay current on Japanese power market developments, including regulatory changes, market structure, and participant behavior. ◾️Why Join Mercuria? “Work at the forefront of global energy trading” Gain exposure to one of the world's largest and most dynamic power markets while working within a leading global commodities trading organization. “Make a direct commercial impact” Unlike traditional research roles, your analysis will directly influence trading decisions, commercial strategies, and business development initiatives. “Develop highly valuable expertise” This role offers a rare opportunity to build expertise across: ・Power market analytics ・Commodity trading ・Energy economics ・Quantitative modeling ・Data science ・Commercial strategy “Join a business in growth mode” As Mercuria continues to expand its presence in Japan, you will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of a growing platform and help shape its future direction.
労働条件	◾️Location Tokyo（Chiyoda-ku）
応募資格	【必須（MUST）】・Degree in a quantitative field (mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, economics, or similar); graduate degree a plus. ・Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience. ・Hands-on experience building forecasting or statistical models, ideally in energy, commodities, or financial markets — industry background in power is a plus but not required. ・Proficiency in Python, R, or similar. ・Solid understanding of regression, time-series analysis, and fundamental statistical concepts. ・Japanese language: Native level. ・English language: Fluent. 【歓迎（WANT）】・Existing relationships with Japanese power clients (utilities, generators, retailers, IPPs, etc.) are highly preferred, but not mandatory. ・Solid understanding of the Japanese power market structure and delivery system is highly preferred, but not mandatory. ・Basic understanding of power, fuels, and derivatives products is a plus. ・Experience supporting client-facing activities and commercial discussions. ・Experience in power, energy, commodity, or financial markets.
