Overview： The Legal Counsel, Japan will support Mastercard’s business across Japan (and, as needed, Korea), partnering closely with regional and global stakeholders across Core Payments, Digital Partnerships, Products & Solutions, and Services. This role provides endtoend legal support on commercial, regulatory, and strategic matters in one of Mastercard’s most complex and important markets. The role will report into the AP Legal leadership and work closely with business, compliance, and regulatory teams locally and regionally. Role and Responsibilities： ・Provide legal advice and transactional support across Mastercard’s Japan business, including Core Payments, digital wallets, network partnerships, and strategic initiatives. ・Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial agreements, including network participation, licensing, technology, services, and partnership agreements. ・Advise on Japanese regulatory and legal requirements impacting payments, financial services, data protection, competition law, and consumer protection. ・Support engagement with regulators and industry bodies in Japan, working closely with Compliance and Government Engagement teams. ・Identify and manage legal risk, proposing practical, commerciallyfocused solutions aligned with Mastercard policies and global standards. ・Coordinate and manage external counsel in Japan, including oversight of cost, quality, and strategic alignment. ・Collaborate with regional and global legal colleagues on crossborder matters impacting Japan and the wider APAC region. ? Support internal governance, escalation, and approval processes, including internal policies and compliance frameworks. |

| 応募資格 |
【必須（MUST）】 All About You・Qualified lawyer in Japan (or other common law jurisdiction with strong Japan experience). ・ 7+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally including a mix of toptier law firm and inhouse experience in payments, financial services, or technology. ・Strong knowledge of Japanese commercial and regulatory frameworks; experience in payments or fintech is highly preferred. ・Fluent in Japanese and English (written and spoken); duallanguage capability is strongly preferred for this role. ・Proven ability to operate independently in a fastpaced, matrixed, multinational environment. ・Commercially pragmatic, solutionsoriented, and comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders. ・Strong judgment, risk awareness, and ability to balance legal rigor with business priorities. |
