仕事内容 About the Company
JERA Global Markets Co., Ltd. (GMJ) is a member of JERAGM group. GMJ is a leading utility-backed Japanese power trader. JERA Global Markets Pte. Ltd. (JERAGM) in Singapore is a joint venture between majority shareholder JERA Co., Inc. and EDF Trading Ltd, JERAGM’s shareholders are among the world’s major utilities. JERAGM operates one of the most exciting energy portfolios in the world which gives it an in-depth understanding of the way local, regional and international energy markets behave. Our in-depth knowledge and market insights enable us to capture trading opportunities, optimize portfolios, create value and enhance security of supply for our customers.

The Japanese power market is a uniquely vibrant market where the 2016 liberalization of the market marked a pivotal transition towards increased opportunities and expanded service offerings for customers.

In April 2025, JERA Co., Inc. and EDF Trading Ltd integrated their respective Japanese power trading businesses into JERA Global Markets, the exclusive fuels optimizer and joint venture of both companies.

Position Description
As an Optimization Analyst within JERA Global Markets’ Power Trading Analytics Team, you will focus on enhancing the performance of internal power price forecasting and power generation dispatch models used across various horizons in the power market. These models—already in place—support power price forecasting and generation scheduling under operational and regulatory constraints.

Your primary responsibility will be to refine and extend the optimization logic embedded within these models using advanced mathematical programming techniques. You will work closely with internal stakeholders such as model developers, quantitative analysts, trading analysts, and generation schedulers. This role is technically focused and operates within a collaborative, model-centric environment, without requiring direct exposure to external market-facing functions.

Key Role Responsibilities
• Model Optimization Enhancement
Improve and extend the optimization components of internal forecasting and dispatch models. Focus on parameter configuration, constraint tuning, boundary refinement, and solver integration to ensure the models align with operational realities and market constraints.
• Algorithm Development
Apply mathematical programming techniques—including linear programming (LP), and mixed-integer programming (MIP), using industry-standard solvers such as Gurobi. Develop algorithmic solutions for constrained optimization problems involving generation resources, forecast uncertainty, and asset dispatch logic.
• Cross-functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with a variety of technical stakeholders including model developers, generation planning teams, trading analysts, and internal quants. Understand business constraints and translate them into optimization-ready formulations.
• Model Validation & Refinement
Configure, test, and validate optimization components within complex models. Analyze and diagnose performance bottlenecks, assess sensitivity to constraints, and ensure solver reliability across production use cases.
• Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
Maintain clear and structured technical documentation of model configurations, solver workflows, and optimization logic. Regularly communicate key findings and improvements to internal teams, and contribute to the team’s collective modelling standards and practices.

応募資格

【必須(MUST)】

• Educational Background
Advanced degree (or equivalent practical experience) in Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related technical fields.
• Optimization Expertise
Solid foundation in mathematical optimization, especially linear programming (LP) and mixed-integer programming (MIP). Demonstrated ability to formulate, implement, and refine constrained optimization problems using industry-standard solvers such as Gurobi (or equivalent).
• Programming Proficiency
Strong Python programming skills, particularly with object-oriented development for scientific computing. Able to write maintainable and modular code for optimization routines and model configuration.
• Analytical and Diagnostic Skills
Ability to interpret solver output, identify bottlenecks or infeasibilities, and troubleshoot convergence issues. Rigorous attention to detail and a structured approach to model validation and performance tuning.

【歓迎(WANT)】

• Stochastic Optimization Knowledge
Familiarity with uncertainty modelling techniques such as stochastic programming or robust optimization, especially as applied to long-term planning or dispatch under uncertain conditions.
• Power Systems and Market Knowledge
Broader understanding of power market operations, merit-order pricing, balancing markets, or regulatory constraints in electricity systems. Knowledge of how these are reflected in real-world dispatch models is a plus.
• Applied Experience in Energy Systems
Hands-on experience applying optimization techniques in the context of electricity systems, power scheduling, or energy forecasting. Strong understanding of how generation constraints, forecast uncertainty, or operational limitations translate into mathematical formulations.
• Tooling and Infrastructure Experience
Exposure to Linux-based environments, version control (e.g., Git), and data interfaces such as SQL or NoSQL databases. Experience working in cloud-based modelling environments is advantageous.
• Solver Flexibility
Familiarity with other optimization solvers (e.g., CPLEX, HiGHS, CBC/CLP), including trade-offs in performance and licensing.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
Experience working in collaborative teams that include analysts, model developers, and scheduling operators, especially in large-scale modelling or infrastructure planning contexts.
• Fluency in both Japanese and English
For Japanese nationals, the ability to communicate effectively in English in a business environment, both verbally and in writing, is expected. For non-Japanese nationals, Japanese language skills are good to have; experience working with Japanese materials or data sources would be an advantage.

Person Specification
• Curious and proactive, with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Effective communicator, able to collaborate across functions and drive analytical outcomes.
• Strong interest in energy markets and trading, with good commercial awareness.
• Highly responsible, result-oriented, with good time management and planning ability.
• Able to thrive in a fast-changing market environment with a strong sense of initiative.
