ROLE PURPOSE
The Large Client Lead will be the deputy one of Edelman Japan’s most significant client relationships, managing account teams and ensuring the delivery of high-quality work on time and within budget. This will account for 50% of the time allocation. In addition to this important role, the candidate will provide leadership to other strategic, integrated communications accounts within the brand portfolio, accountable for deepening relationships within key client organizations, driving organic growth, and introducing the full range of Edelman's capabilities to enhance client impact and business success. The successful candidate will also mentor and develop the client service team to achieve consistent excellence.

JOB BRIEF
The Large Client Lead is a critical senior leadership role overseeing a portfolio of major accounts with a revenue contribution of at least USD $1 million. The individual in this role must be a relationship builder, strategic thinker, and growth driver, leveraging Edelman’s integrated offerings across PR, digital, creative, marketing, and more. A successful candidate will be culturally fluent in both Japanese and Western business practices and experienced in working with or within Japan-headquartered companies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Serve as the primary relationship owner for one or more of Edelman’s largest clients in Japan, fostering long-term, trusted partnerships.
• Identify and pursue opportunities for organic growth by deeply understanding client businesses and challenges.
• Introduce and integrate the full spectrum of Edelman capabilities to the client, working with specialty teams as needed both in and outside Japan.
• Ensure account delivery is on time, on budget, with business acumen and of consistently high quality.
• Drive internal networking efforts to broaden Edelman’s footprint within client organizations, building relationships across departments and business units.
• Guide, mentor and inspire the client service team, enhancing capability, strategic.
• thinking, client service standards and directing talent to elevate and grow within the client portfolio.
• Collaborate with leadership on commercial planning, budgeting, and forecasting for assigned accounts.
• Provide strategic counsel to senior client stakeholders, ensuring Edelman remains a proactive, trusted advisor.
• Actively contribute to Edelman Japan’s leadership team and support broader agency initiatives.

KEY SKILLS & EXPERIENCES
• Strong relationship management and interpersonal skills with senior executives and key decision-makers.
• Strategic thinking with a proactive approach to client challenges and opportunities.
• Demonstrated experience delivering integrated marketing and communications
programs (earned, owned and paid).
• Strong commercial and operational acumen, including P&L ownership and project delivery oversight.
• Excellent bilingual communication skills (English and Japanese) in both verbal and written formats.
• Effective team leadership, mentoring, and talent development skills.
• Ability to navigate and thrive in matrixed and multinational environments.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• At least 15 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a related field.
• Proven experience managing client accounts with annual revenue of at least
USD $1 million.
• Previous experience working with or within a Japan-headquartered company is highly desirable.
• Deep knowledge of public relations (both earned and owned) and integrated marketing communications including digital tools and channels.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Japanese
