Function: Support Groups/Patent Law Summary: In concertation with the IP ＆ Legal R＆I manager for North Asia, and in line with global IP strategy, drive the construction and implementation of IP strategies for inventions generated by JP innovation teams, including operation teams. The role involves, with the strong assistance of outside patent firms and, when needed, of the IP ＆ Legal R＆I manager for North Asia, the direct management of the IP on a specific perimeter including patent filing, prosecution, portfolio management, right to market and defense of our patented territories from third parties. Through training, raise the level of awareness of innovation teams regarding IP Advise Research management team in R＆I JP on any IP matter, including litigation. Develop and manage a team including 1 patent agent resources. The role will require some coordination with other IP teams in other Hubs on specific projects transverse to several Research facilities. Contribute to the monitoring of competitors ‘environment, both from a patent and product standpoint. Share knowledge and expertise in patents, including Japanese practice, with all other IP teams throughout the world. Support to legal R＆I/open innovation: review the IP clauses in contracts with third parties. Build and develop a strong network with IP practitioners in Japan. Job Requirements • BS in Chemistry, Material Sciences, Chemical Engineering or similar degree with 5－10 years’ experience in patent counseling, including drafting patent applications and prosecution applications in the Patent Office. Advanced degrees preferred. • Experienced in providing legal opinions （patentability and right to market） • Experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications • Experience in working in a multinational and multicultural environment and willingness to learn, adapt, and cooperate • Registered Patent Attorney • Good written and oral communication skills • Provides patentability, validity and right to market legal opinions. Strong capability to work in autonomy Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Tasks, Duties ＆ Responsibilities 2. Drive the construction and implementation of IP strategies for inventions generated by JP innovation teams, including operation teams: Patent filing, prosecution, portfolio management, right to market and defense of our patented territories from third parties Oversee outside counsel with respect to patent drafting and prosecution, including prosecution of foreign cases. 2. Develop and manage a team including 1 patent agent resource: helping for designing strategic patent filing plans, reviewing patentability and RTM analysis, reviewing draft patent applications 3. Through training, raise the level of awareness of innovation teams regarding IP 4. Coordination with other IP teams in other Hubs on specific projects transverse to several Research facilities. 5. Advise Research management team in R＆I JP on any IP matter, including litigation 6. – Support to legal Department/Business Development : Review and approve IP schemes in contracts Required Competencies: Ability to multi－task a must.
